Staying consistent while travelling

I was travelling last week for work. The last time I travelled I had no access to a gym on the first leg of the trip and found the gym too late on the last leg of the trip. I was doing a lot of walking the whole trip and eating mediocre but still managed to gain 5 pounds while I was gone. I was determined to maintain my weight this time.

I started my trip with an intense leg day workout and 30 minutes on the treadmill doing a couch to 5K workout. I felt refreshed and ready for a day of travel. By the time I landed at my final destination I was exhausted and had over 12K steps. Despite the exhaustion, I was up at 6am and headed down to the hotel gym for a workout. I ended up resting the second day, a full day of travel and a full day of meetings left me exhausted and I decided to listen to my body and rest.

My nutrition while I was gone was 90% and I was very proud of myself. I spoke with a friend before I left for advice on sticking to nutrition while travelling and their advice was to drink lots of water, have a protein bar before my meal and to fill my plate with protein and vegetables. I made smart nutrition choices while I was gone and because of that I came back weighing the same as I did when I left.

It is possible to remain consistent when you are traveling, regardless if its for business or personal, you have to want to be consistent though. Sticking with my fitness plan and nutrition is important to me. I often get tired of going to the gym all the time but then I remember what I used to look like before I was at the gym regularly and I don’t want to look like that person again. That is my motivation to stick with my goals and its what gets me to the gym when I’m ready to quit.
