The struggle is real! I have lost count how many times I’ve had to re-start my fitness journey in 2023 and we are only a quarter if the way in! With a busy winter of intense hockey schedule, stressful and time consuming job and the rotating of poor sleep because of said job’s stresses, I haven’t had it in me to hit the gym as consistently as I’ve wanted. With my BODi (formerly Beachbody) account and couch account I should have been doing at home workouts on the days I was too exhausted or it was too cold and snowy to hit the gym but I let my mind convince me I didn’t have heavy enough weights in my arsenal of weights at home to make a difference but sadly my mind was wrong. Sure increased weight means increased muscle but doesn’t mean I wont see results, if anything it allows me to stop thinking about hitting my next PR and pushing myself too hard and focus more on my form and ensuing I’m not getting hurt, which is the reason I stopped doing BODi workouts last year.
My personal trainer has gone MIA due to health issues and asked to change up my training schedule but never responded to my reply email with my availability during his new limited duty time frame and he hasn’t passed me on to another trainer. I’ve decided to let my sessions pile up while still paying for them to be able to go back twice a week during the spring/summer and then be done with training (unless of course they finally give my account the attention it deserves and assign me a new trainer and we jive and is a less of a flake than my current one) and developed my own training plan but was thinking today it’s time to get back to starting the lifting workout with Joel on BODi that I had started and stopped so many times. I can take the workouts to the gym to keep my early morning schedule 2-3 days a week and do the rest at home if needed on those exhausting days, like today, when I have every intention of going to the gym but poor sleep has left me exhausted.
I have invested in myself again! I have always been interested in macros but always got discouraged by all the macro calculators out there that gave me different macros and calories that I gave up. Instead of paying someone to do the calculation for me and needing to go back to pay them when they needed adjusting, I singed up for Biceps after babies macros 101 course. They teach you how to calculate the calories on your own, and how to adjust them as needed to hit your goal and you get lifetime access to the community to continue to ask questions when the 4 weeks are done. That starts next month and I’m excited to learn and absorb the information so I can finally get my nutrition on track and stay on track.
These last couple of weeks I’ve also started walking more. Spring is here and on the nice and sunny days we have (which are still few and far between) I’ve been going out for walks. My very first trainer, who I was sad when he had to quit because of school) told me just 30 minutes a day is what is needed to get fat loss going. I had so much success last summer walking I knew I needed to get back to it. I also have a 5K race coming up in May that I am so not ready for. Attempted a run this past week and made it 0.55KM before my lungs felt like they were going to explode and my legs were going to fall off (to be fair, it was leg day at the gym and the air temp is still in the negatives) and I gave up. I’ve been too busy this week to get back out there and today I’m too exhausted to try but the week isn’t over, there’s still Saturday and Sunday to get my 4th workout in and a run so all is not lost yet.
It’s normal to struggle, just keep getting back to it. The saying is, it takes 3 weeks to create a habit. I say keep being consistent and get active as often as you can and eventually it will be routine and even when your exhausted you will be active.
